Quilt Documentation Day Guidelines

It is easy to host a Documentation Day. All you need is a good facility and few willing volunteers. The facility should be easily accessible to the community that you are working with. Space is needed for 4’ x 8’ tables for the analysis area, a few smaller tables for reception and label sewing areas and a space large enough to hold quilts up for photography. A bathroom is important and a kitchen area is nice, but not essential. Suggested facilities are grange halls, town halls, community centers, libraries etc. We prefer to schedule all Documentation Days on Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. It is up to each host chapter whether they want to actually schedule an individual quilt owner or leave it open to first come, first served.

Positions filled by Chapter Volunteers:

  • Receptionists 1 – 2
  • Photographers Assistants 2 – 3
  • Label Stitchers 1 – 2
  • Floaters 2 – 4

Supplies needed:

  • 4’ x 8’ tables (clean) – 2 – 4
  • 1 small table for reception area
  • 1 small table for label stitchers
  • chairs for volunteers and quilt owners

All other positions and supplies will be provided by MQH
