September Workshops

How many times have you completed your patchwork blocks, put them on your design wall, and wondered how to finish the edges? If you are like me, that decision has generally ended with 2-3 plain strips of cloth. Attend Jan Krueger's Friday workshop on September 5th and come away with new ideas to finish off your quilts! It will be held at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Augusta from 9:00 to 4:00.

"Patchwork Borders That look good for quilters with limited time" sounds like it will help us solve that dilemma. This is a hands-on class to learn a dozen, attractive, foolproof border concepts perfected by Mary Ellen Hopkins. There is an extra $3 per person notebook fee collected on the day of the workshop. While there is a bit of prep cutting materials for this workshop you will create a notebook with unique border samples and ideas. Jan will also show us some helpful hints about how to make those borders fit! Take a peek on her website at www.hearthsidequiltersnook.com to see the possibilities.

On Sunday, September 7th, we will again return to the Dyke Center in Bangor on Husson¹s campus. Jan will teach 2 different patterns utilizing Mary Ellen's techniques. "Poor Man¹s Pineapple" is made up of six-inch blocks. Simple piecing creates a complicated looking pattern without using paper. Examples show it can be constructed using lattice or block-to-block with very different results.
"Elongated Diamonds" is another option, featuring a big block. It's an original design. This workshop teaches you to use the Tri Recs ruler in away it was never intended -- creating a "fool the eye" concept. Jan says she was looking for a new angle on quilting and, after much twisting and turning, she decided on a layout she calls "46". Designed for a quilter with some experience, it is cut with a nearly 60 degree ruler. A pattern ($7) is required for this workshop on the day of the class.

The deadline for priority registration is July 6, 2008.

You will need the Adobe Reader free software in order to open the registration form.
