Dianne S. Hire

Dianne S. Hire

Although enchantment with fabric seems to always been a part of her life, Dianne began her quiltmaking journey in 1985. Even then the adaptation of traditional time-honored designs and techniques was significant. She has always experimented, finding her own way, her own song, her own work within tactile dimensions.

An award-winning fiber artist and international exhibitor, Dianne attended Vanderbilt University and received her BA from Tennessee Technological University. She lives in Northport, Maine with her two best friends – husband, Terry and Maine coon cat, Sir Hilary Hire – both of whom love fiber and strings in quilt form. Before moving to Maine in 1981, Dianne was a couture dress buyer and never, ever considered quilting to be a possibility for her life.

207 Organdy Ribbon Transparency
All Levels; Sewing Machine
Kit Fee $12

Let’s describe it as “Luminescent Gems” and “Faceted Jewels”. Here’s a way to create an elegant plaid wallhanging without piecing. …hm-m-m, don’t you wonder how to do that? By using batik-type fabrics and organdy ribbons that look and feel like silk – that’s exactly what we’ll do. Quickly, you will be able to create a small wallhanging (app. 17” x 17”) in plaid transparencies and subtle shading overlays. The piece you design will be magnificently gorgeous. Requirement: You must be friendly with your sewing machine- one that is capable of fine-satin stitch embroidery. Supply List

Curvaceous Square

Saturday, July 26
304 Curvaceous Squares
Intermediate Level; Sewing Machine

Square curves – easy! Design template-free, intuitively created blocks of inset curves that become squares. Several options using the same exciting technique will be shown. By the end of the day, you may have your curvaceous squares designed, stitched together, and/or ready to quilt. Supply List

Sunday, July 27
405 “come PLAY with me!”
Intermediate to Advanced Levels; Sewing Machine

Need to lighten up? Not having any quilting fun? Tired of prissy little piecing? (I can say that, since precision piecing used to be my forte.) Then this workshop is for you. Intuitive and improvisational, we’ll play liberating games at your sewing machine. We’ll slice fabrics, trade slivers of blocks, hunt for bright colors just begging for a place to land in a quilt and return home with a few oxymoron blocks, in random order. Can’t you see it now? Fabrics all over the floor. Requirement: Excellent sense of humor! And, oh yes, a good friendship with your sewing machine and basic knowledge of piecing. Supply List
