Betty Pillsbury

www.bettypillsbury.com

From her home high in the hills of New York state, Betty Pillsbury creates works of art that suit her fancy. She taught herself embroidery at the age of eight and continues to experiment with many techniques. Over the years she has enjoyed numerous types of needlework.

In 1990, while living in England, she read a magazine article on crazy quilting. That article changed her life. Crazy quilting is what Betty loves best as she can combine many techniques into one cohesive whole. Betty also enjoys the historical aspect of crazy quilting and has an extensive library of antique and modern resources. She collects vintage textiles, including several crazy quilts. In 2001, Betty appeared on “Simply Quilts” on HGTV. She has also appeared on the PBS production, “Quilting Nebraska”. Her goal as a teacher is to inspire her student's creativity by providing an understanding of the basics while encouraging individual interpretation. Excellent craftsmanship and artistry must blend for the most satisfactory outcome.

408 Motifs from Antique Crazy Quilts

All Levels; Hand Work
Kit Fee $20

Inspired from 120-year-old quilts, these hand embroidered motifs bring a touch of yesteryear to today’s work. Appliqué a velvet umbrella to a patch and fill it with silk ribbon pansies. Paint forget-me-nots on a velvet fan. (I have developed a technique easy enough for beginners.) Even embroider chenille cat-tails onto fabric as your great-grandmother might. Supply List
