| D104. Navarati by Sagaree Sengupta, Lewiston. (69 x 70) Just after 9/11, I made my first large quilt top, in an attempt to construct something out of despair. I named it “Navaratri” or “Nine (Sacred) Nights” after a late fall portion of the Hindu ritual calendar when darkness and light, good and evil, what’s terrifying and what’s reassuring are contrasted. The quilt is made entirely of recycled clothing, my own and thrift shopped. The thick batting made it difficult and slow to quilt but it was what I could afford at the time. This quilt contains a large chunk of my life and I have learned a lot from it. Original design. Machine pieced, hand quilted. |
