D104.JPG - D104. Navarati by Sagaree Sengupta, Lewiston. (69 x 70) Just after 9/11, Imade my first large quilt top, in an attempt to construct something out ofdespair. I named it “Navaratri” or “Nine (Sacred) Nights” after a late fall portionof the Hindu ritual calendar when darkness and light, good and evil, what’sterrifying and what’s reassuring are contrasted. The quilt is made entirely ofrecycled clothing, my own and thrift shopped. The thick batting made it difficultand slow to quilt but it was what I could afford at the time. This quilt contains alarge chunk of my life and I have learned a lot from it. Original design. Machinepieced, hand quilted.
