Serendipity … “The gift of being able to make delightful discoveries by pure accident” … the 2009 raffle quilt, along with five throw pillows, was created by Ruth Alexander and Dianne Hodgkins. Ruth machine pieced the top’s background and borders, the quilt back and the throw pillows. Dianne did the hand appliqué, threadwork and long-arm machine quilting. Fabric for the quilt was donated by Marjorie Hallowell from Maine-ly Sewing, Nobleboro.
This 98” x 112” multi-colored quilt has shades of green, blue and purple cascading across and surrounding the quilt top as well as spilling over to the “designer” back. Sixteen patch and four patch blocks set on point form the background for a tranquil hand appliquéd setting. A large tree rises over several brightly colored lupines which are abuzz with threadwork butterflies, dragonflies and a hummingbird, all being eyed by a great frog. The scene is framed with a piano key border sporting the greens, blues and purples of the background.
Tickets for this quilt will distributed to chapters at the January Members’ Meeting and mailed to floaters in early February. Tickets can be purchased from any PTQG member or by contacting Ruth at 207.865.4740. The winner will be drawn at Maine Quilts on Sunday, July 26 at 3 p.m.
