Vikki Pignatelli

Vikki PignatelliVikki entered the world of quilting in 1991 at the urging of her sister, Augustine Ellis. A non-sewer at the time, Vikki attended a beginner's class and quickly fell in love with the art of quilting. Now a full-time professional quilt-artist, designer, international teacher, lecturer and author, Vikki and her quilts have been featured in many books, national publications and exhibitions. She has won 32 awards in national and international competitions and exhibitions.

A self-taught artist with experience in painting (watercolor and oils) and sculpture, Vikki enjoys a passion for color and flowing designs. She developed a simple layering technique that is a blend of piecing and appliqué. She is the author of two books featuring this technique and also has produced a DVD, Crazy About Curves. Also, Vikki has written “how-to” articles published in several magazines.

Deeply influenced by her husband’s bout with cancer and his recovery in 1993, most of Vikki’s artwork now focuses on the themes of healing, spirituality, hope and inspiration. In her writings and teaching, Vikki's focus is to inspire, nurture and develop the artistry and self-confidence within each quilter.

Vikki lives in Reynoldsburg, Ohio, where she resides with her husband of 41 years, Denny. They have two children, Denise and Dan. Vikki and her husband love to travel and dance for relaxation.

201 Color Your Quilt Beautiful

Beginner-Intermediate

Class begins with discussions about the basic principles of color and design, especially relating to fabrics and quilting. Students learn types of contrasts, juxtaposition of colors, color symbolism, mood, attaining movement in quilts and some basic rules of design. A portion of the class will be devoted to experimenting with color, contrasts and balance. Students are given the freedom and courage to experiment and open their minds to the joy of color.

Hands-on participation. If time permits, we will talk about color or design concerns you may have encountered with either a finished quilt or one in progress. Please share one or two of these problem quilts in class if you would like a gentle and positive critique.
