Mary Lou WeidmanMary Lou Weidman began her quilting life at her grand-mother's knee when she learned first to do yoyos and later on to piece nine patches, half square triangles and then Grand-mother's Flower garden blocks (her favorite pattern). Mary Lou's father, Ted, encouraged her to paint and draw since he was an artist and later on they shared a studio where they both painted fine art paintings that they sold.

After Mary Lou got married and had children, she did advertising and layout work and then was drawn back into quilting when her son was being treated for childhood leukemia and she had a lot of time sitting in the hospital with him. After her son was well, she started doing Story quilts with a folk art style that took the fancy of museums and galleries. It wasn't until later that quilters and shops enjoyed and understood her happy, whimsical style.

She has written four books, Whimsies and Whynots, Everyday Angels, Quilted Memories and Out of the Box: Unleash Your Creativity Through Quilts. She also owns a pattern company that she does booklets and patterns for. Hoochy Mama Quilts and Flower Power are two publications and technique books that are popular as she travels and teaches how to’s.
Her goal is to get each quilter to do a Story quilt about themselves and who and what they love so that in the future, people will know about this quilter and what was important to them. It is her belief that Story quilts will be researched and held valuable in the future.

Mary Lou has been married to Mark for 40 years and has three children and six grandchildren...so far. Her sayings are “Every event in life is a quilt waiting to happen” and “a Happy quilt begins with a smile.”

This quilt stretches tradition and makes you smile when you see the results! This quilt is fun, easy and quick once you understand the technique. It makes a wonderful quilt for your wall, gift for a friend and a darling baby quilt, too. Prepare to have fun and learn new tricks for blocks.

310 Plaid to Meet You

All Levels; Sewing Machine

This class discovers the lovely light that only plaids can exhibit. Plaids can be printed and woven and though in the past most plaid quilts were made of country style colors and fabrics, Mary Lou has been using brights along with those to create new and exciting, creative and fun quilts.

We will be doing piecing and leaving room for appliqué later on. You will get ideas for houses, flowers, trees and other fun things to add to your Plaid to Meet You quilt. Embellishments will be discussed. This class is all about color and fabric discovery. We will be discussing what fabrics make a sensational quilt and what your stash may be missing that you hadn’t thought of. Come with a desire to have fun, laugh and enjoy this great class.
