President's Block

As I’ve said in the past issues, I find coming up with ideas for this block one of the most difficult duties of being the PTQG President. So I write this article on a wet “powerless” morning after a nonplus storm blew through the state. Some of my miscellaneous thoughts are:

Going through old magazines I wondered - When did quilting become a “sweet treat”? Honey buns, layer cakes, turnovers, jelly rolls... All satisfying in their own right as baked goods, but now these goodies can be in your quilting stash - at least there, they’re fat free!

“Easy Peasy”. I have heard that saying every where lately. Wonder where it originated from?

A summer spread? So is it a quilt? I guess if you put a layer of flannel or muslin between the top and backing, it would be “technically” considered a quilt. But if it’s not quilted? Is it still a quilt or just a spread or bed covering?

I’ve noticed tablerunners are the “in” thing. Guess it’s a good way to try a pattern or work a color combination to see if you like it before attempting a bigger project. But I’m not the tablerunner kind of girl. So then what do you do with them? You can only give so much away!

Laurie Walton (Patchwork Press Editor) wants to know -- Do PTQG members “two time” your quilting mojo for other crafts? Evidently, she does; I do, too! And I know many of my quilting friends who do also. So fess up. What other activities do you spend your “quilting” time actually doing? Email and let Laurie know.

And lastly, have you seen the advertisement on TV about a free pass to Disneyland or Disney World parks if only you volunteered? Did you know if you register and make a quilt for Project Linus, you could qualify? For more information, go to disneyparks.com

Till next time,
Karen Keeler
